About Us
The Center for Technology-Enhanced Knowledge and Instruction (cTEKI) formerly known as Center for Online Medical Education and Training (COMET) was formed in 2002, under the direction of Neil Mehta. MD. Dr. Mehta worked with Kristin Hill, an instructional designer, to design and develop the department’s first online course, HIPAA. The course was created to train all Cleveland Clinic caregivers to avoid costly penalties for non-compliance. Caregivers accessed the course using the department’s first Learning Management System (LMS), COMET, which was custom-designed.
Today, the cTEKI department includes an experienced team under the director, Dr. Neil Mehta and manager, Jon Bonezzi. cTEKI supports the strategic development of web-based training to supplement the medical education of physicians, house staff, medical students, and nursing personnel, as well as to train employees, vendors, and guests with a diverse catalog of courses. cTEKI also train educators throughout the enterprise on how to create online courses.
The overall goal of cTEKI is to help improve efficiency and effectiveness of eLearning, and to provide expertise in the development of web-based education and training materials. To ensure we reached our goal, in 2016, cTEKI transitioned from the COMET LMS to MyLearning LMS. MyLearning is powered by Totara, an open-source LMS. MyLearning allows cTEKI and educators throughout the enterprise to create dynamic online courses and learners to interact with course content and other learners. cTEKI continues to work with our LMS vendor to implement requests to improve the functionality and features in MyLearning.
